Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has died at the age of 96, the Carter Center announced today.
Carter, who suffered from dementia, entered hospice care on Friday. She died at 2:10 p.m. ET at her home in Plains, GA, the center said.
Former President Jimmy Carter, 99, said in a statement, “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished. She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.” The Carters were married for 77 years, the longest of any presidential couple.
