Automobiles currently feature driver assistance features like automatic braking and self-parking; these, however, require that a human is still responsible for operating their car. Autonomous cars take this a step further by having computer systems take on driving responsibility instead.
Sensors such as radars, cameras, Lidar and GPS systems help autonomous cars operate smoothly. Recognizing their main characteristics will give us a deeper insight into their operation and enable us to gain an improved understanding of self-driving cars.
Self-driving cars utilize cameras as part of the sensor system that enables them to view their environments. As real world traffic disruptions and accidents become ever more severe, this seemingly academic debate becomes ever more consequential; its answer will determine how far autonomous driving technologies can push beyond safe driver assistance into fully autonomous mode.
